Description

The Compact Off-Grid Workhorse

Where the 550W HiKu6 is sized for grid-tied residential systems and the 670W HiKu7 is sized for commercial installations, the 410W HiKu6 occupies a different niche entirely. It’s the panel you specify when the constraints of your installation aren’t watts-per-square-metre or cost-per-kilowatt — they’re “can a single person carry this on a piki-piki to a remote village” or “can this fit on the roof of a borehole pump house.”

The 410W uses 108 half-cut cells (54×2) instead of the 144 cells in larger HiKu6 modules. The 1,722mm × 1,134mm × 30mm dimensions and 22.5 kg weight make it the lightest, most compact panel in Canadian Solar’s Kenya range. Like the rest of the HiKu6 family, it carries the same 12-year product warranty, 25-year performance warranty, and IEC certifications.

Where the 410W Genuinely Wins

The case for the smallest HiKu6 isn’t about the cost-per-watt — that’s the same KSh 20/W as every other panel in the range. It’s about logistics and applications:

  • Single-rider transport. A 22.5 kg, 1.7-metre panel fits across a piki-piki rear seat or in a small matatu. The 28.6 kg, 2.3-metre 550W usually doesn’t.
  • Solar water pumping. Two panels (820W) directly drive small DC submersible pumps with 48V controllers. The 37.2V Voc fits this voltage class precisely.
  • Low-current MPPT inputs. Older budget inverters with 13–15A MPPT input ratings can use the 410W without clipping.
  • Long string designs. The Voc of 37.2V allows up to 13 panels per MPPT input on a 500V inverter — more flexibility than any other panel in the range.
  • Telecom and security installations. Powering a CCTV array, a perimeter alarm, or a remote VHF repeater rarely needs more than 1–2 panels.

Common Application Setups

  1. Borehole pumping (DC): 2 panels (820W) directly coupled to a 48V DC submersible pump controller — no inverter required for daytime pumping
  2. Off-grid rural home (basic): 2–3 panels (820W–1.23kW) with a Vestwood 3.5kW hybrid inverter and 5kWh lithium battery
  3. Security installation: 1–2 panels powering CCTV, perimeter lights, and an electric fence energiser
  4. Standard 3-bedroom house: 8–9 panels (3.28–3.69kW) with a Vestwood 6kW hybrid inverter and 10kWh battery
  5. Telecom site: 4–6 panels powering radio equipment and battery backup
