Description
The Final Component That Locks Your Solar Array in Place
The SFS-ECN2-30AL is a 30mm solar end-clamp — the specific piece of hardware that grips the outermost panel edges at the two ends of every row in a solar array. Where mid-clamps work in pairs between adjacent panels (gripping two frames at once), end-clamps do the equally critical job of capturing the row-terminating panel frames against the rail. Without end-clamps, the first and last panels in any row have nothing holding them down on their outer edge — and the entire row can lift in moderate wind.
Built from 6005-T5 structural-grade anodized aluminum with SS304 stainless steel hardware, the ECN2-30AL delivers the same Tier-1 European build specification used on premium solar mounting systems worldwide — at a price point that fits comfortably into Kenyan residential and small-commercial installation budgets. The J-profile body is dimensioned specifically for 30mm framed panels, the slimmer profile increasingly used by N-type TOPCon and HJT modules across modern installations.

End-Clamp vs Mid-Clamp: Why You Need Both
One of the most common questions from first-time solar buyers is why they need two different types of clamp at all. The answer is geometric: panels in a row interact differently with their neighbours depending on position.
- Middle panels in a row have a neighbouring panel on each long edge. A mid-clamp sitting in the gap between them grips both adjacent frames simultaneously — one piece of hardware secures two panels.
- End panels (the first and last in a row) have a neighbouring panel on only one edge. The other edge — the outer edge — has nothing to clamp against. An end-clamp is shaped to grip the outer frame edge alone, with the clamp body pressing down against the panel and securing it to the rail underneath.
If you tried to use a mid-clamp at a row’s end position, it wouldn’t work — the Omega-shaped mid-clamp profile expects two frames to grip and sits asymmetrically with only one. End-clamps solve this with a J-shaped profile that grips one frame edge precisely. Both clamp types are essential; neither can substitute for the other.
How Many 30mm End-Clamps Does Your Installation Need?
End-clamp quantity follows a simpler rule than mid-clamps: 4 end-clamps per panel row, regardless of how many panels are in the row. Two at the row’s starting edge (one per rail line) and two at the row’s terminating edge.
| Array Configuration | End-Clamps Needed | Mid-Clamps Needed |
|---|---|---|
| Single row of 3 panels | 4 | 4 |
| Single row of 6 panels | 4 | 10 |
| Single row of 10 panels | 4 | 18 |
| Two rows of 6 panels | 8 | 20 |
| Three rows of 8 panels | 12 | 42 |
| Five rows of 10 panels | 20 | 90 |
Note how end-clamp totals stay small compared to mid-clamp totals — most arrays need only 4–20 end-clamps total. This is why we sell them as singles or in small bundles rather than the bulk packs used for mid-clamps. Use the solar calculator to confirm the exact split for your project.
Which Panel Brands Use 30mm Frames?
The 30mm frame thickness is increasingly the default for newer Tier-1 modules:
- Jinko Solar: Tiger Neo N-type 580W and 585W bifacial, 475W and 480W variants — current generation.
- Canadian Solar: TOPHiKu7 580W and 585W bifacial panels, several 2024–2025 N-type designs.
- JA Solar, Trina, LONGi: Most current-generation N-type modules below 600W use 30mm frames.
The 30mm end-clamp is the right specification for any installation using these modern panels. If you’re working with older 35mm-frame panels (Cheetah, HiKu6, BiHiKu6, etc.) you need the 35mm end-clamp (SFS-ECN2-35AL) instead. For 33mm-frame panels, the slightly different 33mm end-clamp variant (SFS-ECWN2-33AL) provides the precise fit.
Completing the Solar Mounting Kit
- 30mm mid-clamps: Pair the SFS-ECN2-30AL end-clamps with SFS-MC3N2-30/33AL mid-clamps for a complete 30mm-frame solar mounting bill of materials.
- Aluminum mounting rails: Two parallel rails per row of panels — the SunRack Rail-12 covers most residential and small-commercial spans.
- Roof anchor points: The Sunforson TRG-series tin roof clamps anchor your rails to mabati roofing without drilling, or use LFN2S L-feet on timber-frame roofs.
- Earthing kit: An ELN2-20AL earth lug bonds the rail to the system ground; GC-01 grounding clips bond each panel frame to the rail.
- Solar panels: Browse the 30mm-frame Jinko and Canadian Solar range.
- Power conversion: Match your panel count to a Vestwood hybrid inverter.
- Energy storage: Add a lithium battery for evening backup.
- Full project quote: Request a quote with your panel count for the complete hardware list including the right end-clamp quantity.
